Green Buildings in Uzbekistan: Technologies, Legal framework and Incentives

Ways to improve technologies and create incentives to increase energy efficiency of buildings were major issues of the Media Briefing discussion conducted on February 10, 2012 at the Center for Economic Research.

The event featured representatives of key media outlets and experts in order to reveal key findings and results of the “Green buildings in Uzbekistan: technologies, legal framework and incentives” Policy brief, developed by the Center for Economic Research with the assistance of UNDP/GEF "Promoting Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Uzbekistan" project.

Energy efficiency in residential construction discussed in Taraz

The issues of professional residential building management will be discussed in Astana on 15 May 2012 – a National Conference on professional residential buildings management will be held with support of UNDP\GEF Project on EE and with participation of Mazhilis Deputies, state officials, Heads of managing and servicing companies.

This Conference is aimed to contribute in creation of an effective multi-apartment owner, to develop a market of managing and servicing companies in Kazakhstan for promotion of Housing Infrastructure Reforms and energy saving.

Dutch expertise in sustainable city development

An open lecture by Professor Andy van den Dobbelsteen from Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands) was jointly organized by UNDP/GEF project on energy efficient construction and Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the Energy saving and knowledge extension centre of Kazakh Agricultural and Mechanical University on 3 May.

The lecture, conducted for the students and teaching staff of the architectural department, was dedicated to the questions of sustainable cities and ecological construction.

Approaches to energy audit to be discussed at UNDP seminar

European and Kazakhstani approaches to conduct energy audit of residential buildings are discussed at the “Energy efficiency in residential buildings: from legal framework to energy auditing methodology” seminar, organized by the UNDP/GEF project on energy-efficient construction in close cooperation with Kazakhstan Housing and Utilities Reform Centre and Norwegian company ENSI.

Guest lectures on energy saving climate change

Climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, energy saving and renewable energy were the topics of guest lectures by United Nations Development Programme at the “Astana” Energy saving and knowledge extension centre, founded with the support of UNDP/GEF projects on energy efficiency.

More than 100 students and teaching staff of the technical specialties of Kazakh Agricultural and Mechanical University after S. Seifullin attended the two lectures by UNDP projects on energy-efficient construction and climate change.

This website is the initiative of the GEF/UNDP Projects on Promoting Energy Efficiency in Construction sectors of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The respective Projects were launched in these countries during 2008-2009.

The UNDP/GEF Projects express interests of international community to energy efficiency in buildings since such attention provides for significant advantages in climate change mitigation effect. Countries of Central Asia and Armenia can contribute to achieving international goals in GHG emissions, while improved energy efficiency secures long-term economy of funds, support healthier economy and improve welfare of people.
